I have just created a page on Facebook called Recovery in the Bible (RIB for Women). You can join it if you want -- and you can invite others freely. I hope it will be a safe place for asking questions about Scripture and helping one another to apply God's will in real life. 

This Facebook group is defined as PRIVATE or CLOSED, which was supposed to mean that only members of the group can see the posts. This, however, appears not to be the case, so please use the private message option if/when the subject you are posting requires confidentiality.

Feedback welcome -- never required. But it would be appreciated, because I am 67 years old and not very techno-savvy...

For this RIB group, I pray it be a safe place for applying Your Word to our little lives so that, as we decrease, You may increase in us and be shed abroad, everywhere we go, for the rest of our time on earth. Make us Your Lighthouses, O Father God, O Holy Spirit, O LORD of love! Shine on us, shine in us, shine through us and out of us, we pray in Christ and by the Holy Spirit before Your Throne! We thank You for providing a place -- a safe place -- where we learn to be fed by You and nourished by Your Word and weaned from milk to meat, to become mature saints receiving and digesting Your Truth, Your Way, Your Will for our Life… that, through our talk and also our walk, You are glorified, we pray.

And as we pray, we see that we are generating a Rainbow of Radiance before Your Throne -- a radiance, a fragrance, a song of songs. Our praise is glorious -- like an array of precious jewels sparkling from us who are living stones alive in Christ. We radiate a myriad of colors, scents, and notes in one accord. A CHORD!

Amazing. Grace. We bow in awe and give You this group and each heart in it. Reign in us and out of us, we pray, like instruments played by You any way You want. Make us like a symphony of sound, like many waters, peaceful in Your deep waters and flowing wherever You flow.

We listen, we learn, we hear, we heed. We are Your sheep, and we know You are our only Good Shepherd. Thank You for bringing us into safety away idols and all the lesser gods. We love the green and luscious field of Your Pasture and we gratefully submit to Your Care and Keeping within it.

We surrender to Your Power. Gratefully. Gladly. Astonished by the Paradox of Powerelessness! Step by step, surrendering everything and everyone, everywhere, to You, who is The Highest Power. Amen!

No annual replacement of The Backpack.

No snooze buttons -- no alarm!

No dog sitter first before you can say yes to anything.

No cat trying to escape out the door where coyote are lurking.

Regarding Counterfeits

When I was little, my parents taught me a poem with their hands that went like this:

Here is the church,

Here is the steeple,

Open the doors,

See all the people.

Little did I know when I was little! Now that I am 67, I am convinced by the Word Writ that the church is not a building: it’s the believers who assemble, it’s the congregation; it’s the people!

Paul’s letters are written to the churches [of Corinth; of Galatia; in Ephesus; in Philippi; in Colosse; of the Thessalonians] to the ekklesia which according to Vine’s Dictionary is translated to mean “congregation.” And Peter wrote to the elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ… who are begotten to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 2-3).

So the above is not a picture of a church; it is a picture of a church building. The Quakers call it The Meeting House, and they enter there for Meeting with God. I agree with their terminology, though not with denomination. I agree with Martin Luther, who  reportedly said, “Leave my name alone, and do not call yourselves Lutherans, but Christians. Who is Luther? My doctrine is not mine. I have not been crucified by anyone. Paul would not that anyone should call himself of Paul or of Peter, but of Christ. How then does it befit me, a miserable bag of dust and ashes, to give my name to the children of Christ? Leave, my dear friends, these party names and distinctions. Away with them all, and let us call ourselves only Christians after Him from Whom our salvation comes" (From Royal Insignia, 1997 Edition, Complied by Edwin and Lillian Harvey, Chapter 11 entitled God’s Exchequer to the Lowly, Page 28, Para 4). So The Church of the New Covenant is not the building with the steeple; it’s those who gather in His name -- any time, any place. Therefore, an image of the church He birthed would look more like this:

For where two or more are gathered together in My name, I AM there

 in the midst of them.

Matthew 18:20.

I know this may sound weird; I offer it only to encourage others to search the Word Writ for themselves. I only discovered this because of Twelve-Step Meetings, which "ruined" me for anything less. My studying this out in His Word has revealed to me that what we are calling "church" isn't. Check it out!

Please note that I am now helping other people write their own stories (as in the memoirs of the Tugboat Captain). Please check it out… Another example is the book entitled Flight to Freedom, which is one true story from the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. It provides a vivid glimpse into the kind of courage it takes to refuse accepting what is unacceptable, and the fruit that comes forth from that kind of courage.

After spending over $1000 to publish Whit’s End, I am really excited to find such an inexpensive, comparable alterative.

It is my hope to offer myself in an affordable way to others who want to do something meaningful with assorted papers (or even drafts of their Great American Novel) that may be stuck in boxes or Rubbermaid bins in the basement.

Send me your WORD document and the art you want for the front cover, and I will work with you to generate a PROOF copy of your book. Once you are finished reviewing (and revising as necessary), I will complete your book and get it onto Amazon.

Createspace fees are minimal; my time is yours for $25/hour. A realistic estimate for a 75-page paperback (including me) would be $350 to get your book written, edited, andmade available on Amazon.

The book contains 52 of the topics that were originally tested out right here in Old Saybrook, starting way back in 2002. As some of you will remember, they are modeled after the rigorously honest approach that is encouraged in meetings of Twelve-Step Recovery. I Got An Article Into Points East Magazine!

I am so happy with a beautiful spread on Zeepaard that has been published in the December issue of Points East Magazine. If you want to see it, you can access the latest issue on line. First, go to pointseast.com and then click on its site. Once you do that, you can scroll down to the icon of the magazine, and you will see an arrow on the right-hand side. This will let you "arrow through" the pages of the issue, which is preferable to following the link that only yields a compressed version of the full spread.

It takes practically no time to arrive at Page 26, where my article begins. I apologize for the two pages of advertisements you will experience en route to the remaining article, but I think you will enjoy the story of the wonderful Penfield family and their international sailing antics. I am just so delighted that the tee-tiny article in the June issue of Cruising World was able to parlay itself into a full feature. It was Barry who suggested that the Penfield's story deserved to be more fully told -- thank you, husband!

This is my dear pal and sister in Christ, Claudia Wood Rahm, whose painting, Living Stones, became the cover for my book. If you have seen that painting, you already know that it is radiantly and absolutely gorgeous. Well, here's the artist, standing in front of some of her more playful, whimsical work during last night's Opening Reception at the Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield.

This is a juried exhibition and it is totally dedicated to Claudia's work (aka, its a one-woman show). Yay, Claudia, and thank goodness for Woody, her excellent husband, who created nearly fifty frames and somehow managed to get everything perfectly mounted on the gallery walls before Hurricane Irene came barreling into Connecticut.

The show is called Color Unchained and you could tell from listening to guests at the reception that they were flabbergasted by the color. "We had no idea," was frequently heard amidst the gathering, which is understandable, because to meet Claudia in person is to encounter someone tiny in stature, quite demure, with gentle demeanor. It is just plain surprising that such powerful blasts of color could possibly come forth from such an unassuming soul. Still, they do. Go and see for yourself. The exhibition closes on September 23rd, so if you can't get to Litchfield, go to her blog at cwrcolorunchained.blogspot.com or come to my house. I'm a pretty cheap date when it comes to taking a drive to see Color Unchained.

This news may be redundant, but I am so excited about the publication of Whit's End that I am telling everybody I know in every way I can. It has taken years to get this thing in shape, but at long last we have a story (a true story!) that should bring hope to anyone who loves an alcoholic.
