Contemporary Psalms

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the traditions of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Colossians 2:8-10

LORD, Your Word asks us to consider why we subject ourselves to the commandments and doctrines of men that have the appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgences of the flesh. Why do we let ourselves be cheated? Your answer:without You,  we cannot discern counterfeits, nor do we recognize lying words. We need to be disciples-- followers who listen and are led by Your leading.

Because we have strayed from the quiet times through which You speak, Your house, called by Your name, has become a den of thieves. Mercy -- LORD, have mercy! Reveal the ways we have set up abominations in Your house to pollute it! Reveal our unwitting idolatries -- making cakes for the "queen of heaven" and pouring out drink offerings to other gods. Cause us to see that Your Truth has been cut off. We have sinned against You, God, rejecting Your Word -- and so, what wisdom do we have? Our only hope is that Your Mercy will graciously expose our need to renounce our wicked ways and return to You, oh God Most High.

In the meantime, I am simply holding fast to Christ who is the Head, from whom all the body is nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, praying for Your Bride to grow with the increase that is from You, and You alone, O God Most High.
