Contemporary Psalms

8-5-13

And still he holds fast...
Job 2:3

LORD, You have recounted an anecdote about a famous violinist that causes my heart to leap with encouragement and gratitude. It's a true story about Nicolo Paganini, who was astounding an audience with an intricate performance when, suddenly, a string snapped and hung from his violin. Paganini frowned briefly, shook his head, and continued to play, improvising beautifully.

Then, to everyone's surprise, a second string broke, but he kept playing. Shortly thereafter, a third string broke, leaving him with a single string as three strings dangled from his Stradivarius. Instead of leaving the stage to repair his instrument, he calmly completed the piece, improvising the notes on his one remaining string.

I love word pictures like this, especially when they are true -- and today's reading in Job. LORD, You speak so clearly to our hearts! Thank You for showing that, no matter how unusual or challenging our circumstances may become, there is always a way that is Best. We who turn to You will never fail to be delivered, led into strength to persevere. Thank You, LORD, for Your indwelling Holy Spirit, who has the Strength and provides it for us, enabling us to press on regardless. With You, all things ARE possible!
