Luke 12:15
And He said to them, “Take
heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance
of the things he possesses.”
Jesus is opposed to all possessions -- not only money
and property, but any kind of possession… [the cares of this world]… It may be
hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, but it is just as hard for
a poor man to seek first the kingdom of God…Did Jesus know what He was talking
about, this poor Carpenter who had not a pillow of His own and never enough
money to pay a night’s lodging? Yet He spoke like that, and also said “the cares of this world, the
deceitfulness of riches, and the desire for other things entering in choke the
word, and it becomes unfruitful”?
