Contemporary Psalms

10-14-13

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in men.
Psalm 118:8

O LORD, reading Jeremiah at such a time as this makes my heart reel. We too are desolate because the ground is parched and so many vessels are empty. There is a famine of Your Word, and Your people sniff at the wind like stubborn donkeys, unable to see because of the famine.

Woe to us that our shame has appeared. You, O LORD, have seen our adulteries and our lustful neighings, the lewdness of our harlotry and our abominations in the hills. Our backslidings are many! We continue to sin against You, even outlawing mention of You by name.

Yet we know that You, O LORD, are in our midst, and we are called by Your gentle yet persistent wooing. Cause the deaf to hear, I pray, that many who have no knowledge may follow You to live in You at the Center of God's Eternal Purpose. May we  point to You and say, "This is the gate through which the righteous enter!" And may You be our Tender Shepherd, gently leading us through this life and into the next.

This posting is based on Jeremiah 13-14 and Psalm 118. The photograph above is from a Facebook page called Life Is Better When You Have God In It.
