Recovery in the Bible (RIB)

A NEW PAIR OF SPECTACLES PLEASE

When we are born, we are human (of water). For most of us, that birth includes a set of natural senses so we can see the world around us, hear its noises, think and feel and taste and touch. We are born of water, wearing flesh, given a set of senses to navigate through the tangible, earthly world.

Unfortunately, these natural senses are not able to penetrate beyond the natural, tangible world. To see and hear and think and feel one’s way through the supernatural realms requires a special pair of glasses. No one can see the things of the Spirit without being born a second time -- of Spirit. That is why Jesus told Nicodemus, “You must be born again.” He said, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

Why? “Because that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit…” Which is a gift bestowed by God. Only He can impart spiritual senses. And, so often, that gift is a Gift Of Desperation: G.O.D.
