1 Corinthians 1: 18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.
… behind the preaching of the Gospel is the
creative redemption of God at work in the souls of men. That is the miracle of
God. If you can tell how a grain of wheat when put into the ground will bring
forth what it never was before, you can also tell how the Word of God out into
a man’s soul will bring forth what was not there before -- a new life. The same
God is the author of both.
How are men born of the Spirit? By the
proclaiming of the historic cross of Christ. “The wind blows where it wishes…
so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” The simple proclaiming of the gospel
of God creates the need of the gospel. Nothing can satisfy the need but that
which creates the need. The inner reality of redemption is that it creates all
the time. “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will; draw all peoples to
Me.” Once let Jesus be lifted up, and the Spirit of God creates the need for
Him.
