And then He asked me to gather in the various scriptures
He had shown me, in a sort of conversational way, and I have obeyed, even as He
seemed to be separating them into three categories, as follows:
·
To the Arrogant Who Know Not What They Do
·
There Is Hope For Those Who Know Not What They Do
·
Comfort For God’s People
To The Arrogant Who Know Not What They
Do
Wail, for the day of the Lord is at
hand! It will come as destruction
from the Almighty. Therefore, all
hands will be limp, every man’s heart will melt, and they will be afraid
(Isaiah 13:6-8). I will halt the
arrogance of the proud and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. I will shake the heavens, and the earth
will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah (Isaiah 13:11-19). Everyone will wail, weeping bitterly --
his life will become burdensome to him (Isaiah 15:3-4). And there will be desolation because
you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not been mindful of the
Rock of your stronghold… [your] harvest will be a heap of ruins in the day of
grief and desperate sorrow (Isaiah 17:9-11).
The princes have become fools; the
princes are deceived; they have also deluded Egypt, those who are the mainstay
of its tribes. and they have caused Egypt to err in all her work (Isaiah
19:13-14). [Therefore] Egypt will
be afraid and fear because of the waving of the hand of the Lord of hosts,
which he waves over it (Isaiah 19:16).
You did not look to [your] Maker, nor did you have respect for Him who
fashioned [everything] long ago (Isaiah 22:8-11). Behold, the Lord [will make] the earth empty and make it
waste, He will distort its surface and scatter abroad its inhabitants, and it
shall be as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with
his master… and the land shall be emptied and utterly plundered, for the Lord
has spoken. The haughty people of
the earth will languish because they have transgressed the laws, changed the
ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant (Isaiah 24:1-5).
It shall come to pass in that day that
the Lord will punish on high the host of exalted ones and on the earth the
kings of the earth. They will be
gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit and will be shut up in
the prison; after many days they will be punished (Isaiah 24:21-22). Because they rebelled against the words
of God and despised the counsel of the Most High, therefore He brought down
their heart with labor; they fell down, and there was none to help (Psalm
107:11-12). Woe to those who
decree unrighteous decrees… Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger and the staff
in whose hand is My indignation. I
will send him against an ungodly nation (Isaiah 10: 1, 5-6). And [they] shall be trampled down under
Him as straw is trampled down for the refuse heap. He will bring down their pride (Isaiah 25:10-11).
Woe to those who go
down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they
are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but who do not look to
the Holy One of Israel nor seek the Lord (Isaiah 31:1). You speak of having plans and power,
but they are mere words (Isaiah 36:5).
They would not walk in His ways, nor were they obedient to His law. Therefore He poured out the fury of his
anger (Isaiah 42:24-25). You have
burdened Me with your sins; you have wearied Me with your iniquities (Isaiah
43:24). Their precious things
shall not profit… they shall be ashamed together (Isaiah 44: 9, 11). I am the Lord, who frustrates the signs
of the babblers and drives diviners mad; who turns wise men backward and makes
their knowledge foolishness (Isaiah 44: 24-25).
Woe to him who strives with his
Maker! Let the potsherd strive
with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to him who forms it, “What are you making?” Or shall your handiwork say, “He has no
hands?” Woe to him who says to his
father, “What are you begetting?”
Or to the woman, “What have you brought forth?” They shall be ashamed and also
disgraced, all of them; they shall go in confusion together who are makers of
idols (Isaiah 45:9-10;16).
Therefore hear this now, you who are
given to pleasures, who dwell securely.
In a moment, in one day, the loss of children and widowhood shall come
upon you for you have trusted in your wickedness. Trouble shall fall upon you; you will not be able to put it
off, and desolation shall come upon you suddenly (Isaiah 47:8-11).
To be continued... the second category will be posted next...
